Sketchy Premise reported on August 2nd that Bernie Mac was hospitalized for pneumonia and was responding to treatment and should be released soon. While specific details have not been given regarding Mac’s death we received the following statement from his publicist, Danica Smith.
"Actor/comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital,"
The comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body’s organs, but had said the condition went into remission in 2005. When he was hospitalized and treated for pneumonia, his publicist stated that it was not related to the disease.
The Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor was most known for his comedic styles in various standup routines and “The Bernie Mac Show”. He was nominated for a Grammy for “The Original Kings of Comedy” and had starring roles in "Bad Santa," "Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle" and "Transformers."
Bernie Mac was 50 years-old.
